By investing in a state-of-the-art iron foundry, BEHRINGER from Kirchardt is setting standards in terms of quality and flexibility. Many years of expertise in grey and ductile cast iron and highly motivated employees, combined with state-of-the-art production technology, are our key factors for quality made by BEHRINGER. Our hand moulding shop specialises in castings weighing up to 4,000 kg. We produce small series of medium unit weights up to around 200 kg on our new block moulding plant more economically than was previously possible.
State-of-the-art process monitoring and material testing procedures give you certainty in matters of quality. As a full-service provider, we support customers from the local region as well as throughout Germany from the design stage to the finished casting. We contribute to your competitiveness in a flexible, fast and reliable manner.
Insight into our foundry
Made in THE LÄND - high-quality cast iron, manufactured in Baden-Württemberg
The modern foundry at Behringer impresses with optimal working conditions, harmonised work processes and uncompromising quality. As a contract manufacturer , we produce high-quality cast components such as housings, bearing covers, bushes and shafts, cylinders, slides or axles from grey cast iron and nodular cast iron. Our customers are companies from the mechanical and plant engineering, pump and drive technology, shipbuilding and engine construction sectors.
Kirchardt is located in Baden-Württemberg, very centrally between the major cities of Heidelberg, Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, Karlsruhe, Heilbronn and Stuttgart. The proximity to the A6 motorway, which connects the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region and the Heilbronn-Franconia region, guarantees short transport routes regionally, throughout Germany and internationally.
In our iron foundry, we process cast iron with spheroidal graphite (EN-GJS) and cast iron with lamellar graphite (EN-GJL).
We castspheroidal graphite cast iron in the qualities EN-GJS-400-18, EN-GJS-400-15, EN-GJS-500-7, EN-GJS-600-3 and EN-GJS-700-2.
We castgrey cast iron in the qualities EN-GJL-200, EN-GJL-250 and EN-GJL-300.
Our new foundry was built in 2009 and equipped with state-of-the-art technology and systems. The cold resin process is used for casting both on the semi-automatic moulding line and in the manual moulding shop. This has the advantage that only one sand circuit needs to be maintained. This reduces sand consumption and the complexity of the logistics. Fresh quartz sand and a binding agent are added in the processing plant.
Around 3500 tonnes of molten iron are cast each year. Around 60 per cent of the castings produced are made from grey cast iron, the other 40 per cent from ductile iron. The proportion of cast iron for the company's own sawing machines is just under 20 per cent.
Customer satisfaction and flexibility
Our top priority is to fulfil our customers' wishes, especially when they are unusual. We are able to transform almost any geometry into a high-quality cast product, and our flexibility, fast response times and delivery processes are impressive, even when time is of the essence.
Modern foundry - from small series to large parts
We produce machine-moulded small series up to a material weight of 200 kg on our block moulding plant. The hand moulding shop specialises in the production of cast parts up to a unit weight of 4 tonnes.
Communication and commitment
In the tradition of our company management, we are committed to our employees as well as our customers and suppliers. Our word counts. We understand their needs and are in constant dialogue with them. Customised solutions are our strength.
History of the iron foundry in Kirchardt
From molten iron to the finished product
The production of cast iron is deeply rooted in BEHRINGER's corporate philosophy. As early as 1951, the first foundry was put into operation under simple working conditions in the centre of Kirchardt (Baden-Württemberg). Over time, the portfolio was expanded to include the manufacture of cast products for external customers.

The first foundry
With the first foundry in the centre of Kirchardt below the Protestant church, August Behringer's dream ‘from molten iron to the finished product’ came true. It all began with a cupola furnace, wooden boxes nailed together and a lot of inexperience. To acquire the necessary expertise, the company made contact with a friend.

Expansion in the village
The foundry moved to a neighbouring property in Kirchardt. A second oven as well as conveyor belts and roller conveyors were installed so that production could be more efficient. At this time, the company mainly produced castings for its own saw production.

Move to the industrial area
With the start of construction in today's industrial area, the foundry is fundamentally modernised. The first casting was started in June 1971. With a new electric furnace, spheroidal graphite cast iron could now be produced in addition to grey cast iron. At the same time, working conditions improved.
As the mechanical engineering remained in the village, the finished castings had to be transported by lorry to the old factory for processing and assembly.

A second melting oven
In order to fulfil the high demand, the mechanical engineering and foundry departments were each extended by one hall. The foundry was given a second melting furnace and a modern dedusting system.

Installation of a moulding line
In order to be able to continue producing economically, the decision was made to invest in a fully automatic moulding line. Technical progress in the foundry was ensured by a new, fully automatic sand preparation plant (1985).

New construction of the foundry
The investment in state-of-the-art production technology combined with many years of expertise in grey and spheroidal graphite cast iron has positioned BEHRINGER in the premium class of German and European foundries.

Installation of a PV system
With the installation of a photovoltaic system on the roofs of the foundry and the model making hall, we can now cover part of our energy requirements ourselves.
